From Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon and Frozen Waterfalls Tour

About This Experience
With more than 1,500 reviews this is the second most-booked Korouoma tour on the platform, and it is the one to look at if you want the gear question settled for you: full professional winter clothing and boots are part of the price, not an add-on.
Korouoma itself is a fracture valley in the bedrock, more than 30 km long and up to 130 m deep, running southeast of Rovaniemi near Posio. In winter the springs that seep down its walls freeze into ice falls tens of metres tall, and the guided route takes in a sequence of them along the canyon floor.
Snowshoes are offered rather than required - useful if you would rather have extra footing on the steep descent, unnecessary on a well-packed trail. The day ends around a fire with a hot snack before the drive back.

Great Trip! We could simply skip the stop by for coffee and snacks in -30C … might be fun if it wasn’t that cold

Frequently Asked Questions
Are snowshoes included?
They are offered as an option rather than required. On a packed trail you will not need them; after fresh snow they make the canyon descent easier.
Is winter clothing provided?
Yes - professional winter clothing and boots are included. You still want your own warm base layers, hat and gloves underneath.
How does this compare with the cheaper Korouoma tours?
It costs more than the small-group BBQ departures but includes full winter kit and picks up from accommodation outside the centre, which several cheaper tours cap at a 7-10 km radius.
Will I see wildlife?
The reserve is home to species that are rarely seen in daylight in midwinter. Guides point out tracks; treat any sighting as luck rather than an inclusion.
