About This Experience

Beyond Arctic runs Korouoma as a photography day. The guide is a wilderness photographer, and the edited images they shoot during the hike are delivered to you digitally after the tour - which matters more than it sounds in a place where the light lasts a few hours and most phone photos of a 60-metre ice wall come out as a white smear.

The route follows the canyon floor beneath cliffs over 100 m high, where streams cascade down and freeze into ice falls. Warm clothing and winter boots are provided, along with a backpack, and lunch is cooked over an open fire mid-route.

The drive from Rovaniemi is about 90 minutes each way by minivan, and the day runs around six and a half hours in total.

What Travelers Say

Very nice day in the sun, beautiful waterfalls, and an excellent guide

— LEGENDRE, 2026-03

Everything was wonderful; the guide was very friendly and was considerate of everyone. The hike was easy. There was an outhouse at the parking lot and at the barbecue area – bring tissues :) The barbecue was cozy. Birds came and ate out of our hands (jays). The waterfalls were beautiful to look at.

Nice and relaxing trip. Recommend it. Better to do it in January or February though.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get the photos on the day?

No - they are edited afterwards and sent to you digitally. That is the trade-off for having a photographer working rather than handing out files at the van.

Do I need a camera of my own?

Not at all. Plenty of guests bring one anyway; the guide is happy to help with settings for snow and low winter light.

Is lunch included?

Yes - a light lunch cooked over an open fire, plus hot drinks and snacks.

How long is the day?

About six and a half hours door to door, including roughly 90 minutes of driving in each direction.
