You are collected from your Rovaniemi accommodation in the morning and driven about 115 km southeast to the Saukkovaara trailhead above Korouoma. Thermal overalls and winter boots are handed out before you set off, so you do not need Arctic clothing of your own - warm base layers, a hat and gloves are enough.
The walk itself is roughly 4-6 km, descending into a bedrock fracture valley up to 130 m deep and passing a string of spring-fed waterfalls that freeze into cream and blue ice walls. The largest, Mammuttiputous, stands around 60 m and is the route Finnish ice climbers come for. Partway round, the guide lights a fire and grills sausages with hot drinks before the climb back out to the vans.

It was an amazing tour! Definitely to be add it in the itinerary for those who would like to visit Lapland! The tour guide was very friendly and very polite with all of us (unfortunately I don't know his name) and he knew a lot of stories about the place, including legend -which are my favourite ones! The path you need to take, is actually easy, a part from the very last spot, since you need to give it a little more climb!🥾 However, before to start the walking/hike, you will get some equipment for the shoes, especially when and if it's slippery -like today! I will attend it again, but definitely during the winter with the snow .. I would like to experience more and more the magic of the place! 5 stars worth it!✨️

It was a great hike with our guide Nil. He was exceptional in guiding us throughout the tour, telling us the about the biodiversity of the National Park as well as stopping at picturesque spots to take our pictures. In addition to this, he also treated us with grilled hot dogs which was a perfect way to close out our 5 Km hike. Highly recommended!

Korouoma is about 100 km from Rovaniemi and is a beautiful place. Our guide, Viktor, was very attentive to our needs and very kind in asking whether we had any special dietary requirements. He led us through the canyon at a suitable pace and was always on hand to answer any questions.

How long is the hike at Korouoma?
Around 4-6 km on the guided section, with roughly 100 m of descent into the canyon and the same climb back out. Allow three to four hours on foot inside a seven-hour day, most of which is the drive.
Do I need my own winter clothing?
